Autumn 1
Stone age to the Iron age
Within history we will learn how our ancestors lived over 10,000 years ago. We will learn how they survived and thrived in our local landscape. The challenges they faced and how over time they developed and began to use metal tools. We will learn how our ancestors’ lives changed from a hunter gathering lifestyle to a more settled farming life and the subsequent growth of communities.
Autumn 2
How wonderful is our world?
In this geography topic we will learn about our amazing world. We will learn about the continents and oceans. We will learn to use geographical terms such as equator, hemispheres, arctic circle and many more. We will learn about time zones and how to look after our planet.
Spring 1
Happy New Year!
We have lots of exciting things planned for this half term with an overarching enquiry question: Where in the world is Italy? We will learn about the human and physical geographical features which make Italy such an interesting place to visit. In D&T we will be investigating, designing and making our own pizzas. And in Science we shall look at different animals’ diets, what constitutes healthy eating for humans and how our human skeleton works.
Year 3 – Spring 1 Newsletter 25 26
Welcome to Spring 2…
We’re half-way through Year 3!!!
Having taught your children for half of a school year, this is the time when we really start to see them begin to flourish with their ideas and learning. Embedding new concepts and applying new skills.
This half term we are focusing on Romans with our topic: What Does It Take to Build An Empire..? We will also be looking at Roman art and reading ‘Romans on the Rampage’ as our class text. It’s a busy half term with lots of things going on in the next 5 weeks, so please take a look at our overview and newsletter, as well as keep an eye on Class Dojo for any important messages.
Hello Sunshine!
During our summer term, we expect to see children really applying all of those wonderful skills they have learned. Our focus is on Volcanoes, Mountains and Earthquakes, focusing more on the physical geographical features of each and understanding how they are all connected. We will be learning about Plants in science, whilst in DT we shall learn how pneumatic systems work in order to help us create one of our own.
