This is going to be a fun and exciting year for you all. As well as all the exciting topics we have planned, there is also the residential and end of year celebrations to look forward to. Although this is an important year with lots of hard work over the coming months, we know that you will also have a brilliant time!
Our PE lessons will be on MONDAYS (outdoor) and FRIDAYS (Indoor). Please ensure children have appropriate PE kit and come to school dressed in this on their PE days.
We ask the children to read at least 3 times each week. Please ensure this is recorded in their organiser, so we can enjoy a class treat when we reach 1000 reads!
We also encourage the children to go on the Doodle Maths programme twice a week. This supports their learning at school and is proven to improve fluency and times table recall skills as well as greatly increase their confidence in maths.
Maths homework is also set on Monday’s which will focus on arithmetic skills in preparation for SATS. It will need to be completed by the following Monday. The weekly homework can be found on this page under the heading Homework
This term we will be asking and exploring the question “How did World War II affect people in Britain and around the World?” In Science, we will be learning about Evolution and Inheritance and we have already started this topic with a lesson all about fossils. You will find all the Knowledge Organisers for these subjects under the Knowledge Organisers Heading.

This term we are looking forward to studying new topics, learning about the Maya Civilisation and Living Things and their Habitats.
As if that wasn’t enough, we will be having an Enterprise Week and you will be invited in for an afternoon tea – prepared by the children.
We also have our up-coming residential, leavers assembly and transition days to look forward to.
Of course, we need to mention ‘SATs’ week – beginning Monday 13th May. Please have a look at the timetable for this and ensure your child is prepared for the week.
In year 6 homework consists of: spelling (given on Friday’s), reading (at least 3 times per wk), DoodleMaths (x2 a wk) and maths in their GCP books or practice SAT’s papers (usually given on Monday’s when given out).
Knowledge organisers are a summary of the key facts and essential knowledge that our Year 6 children need about a unit of work or a curriculum subject. They are usually no more than two sides of A4 with all the information broken down into easily digestible chunks. Knowledge organisers can be used for any subject, from the humanities such as history and English to maths and science.
