We are beginning a new unit today all about multiplication and division. This week we are going to be practicing the skills you learnt in Year 1. The focus for today is to think about making equal groups. If something is equal, it is the same as something else. Work through the video/PowerPoint and practice making equal groups of 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. You could use real life objects to help you with this.
Starter activity (see attached document below)– True or false? Are the cookies sorted into equal or unequal groups? How do you know?
Today’s lesson is again about equal and unequal groups. Watch the video and then complete the worksheet. This assignment needs to be submitted back to us.
Can you make groups of equal amounts and groups of unequal amounts? If the groups are equal, they will have the same amount in each group. Can you practice making different groups. Follow the PowerPoint, listen to the audio clips to see what we want you to do. Use real objects to sort items into equal and unequal groups, inside or outside. We’d love to see some pictures of what you have been up to.
Starter activity – Please complete both Flashback 4 activities below. The answers to these can just be written down, they do not need to be submitted back to us.
Today’s lesson is about adding equal groups. This is the beginning of multiplication. Two equal groups of 2 makes 4. Follow the video/PowerPoint, then complete the worksheet and submit it back to us.
Starter activity (see the attached documents below) – True or False? Does this array show 5 + 5 + 5? How do you know?
Our lesson today is about making arrays. An array is a visual way of representing multiplication calculation. Once you’ve completed the activities, have a go at creating some arrays using practical resources. E.g. could you make an array to show 2 x 10 using cars or biscuits. Make sure you don’t eat them though!
