Week 1 06/01/21

Structure of our Home Learning Timetable

Key information

  • There is a PowerPoint which will show you/your child how to use TEAMS. You find this on the link just below this information.
  • Every day there will be a video from Miss Tutin to explain that days work and where to access this. On a Friday Mrs Cookson will upload a video.
  • Every day we will have a chance to meet on TEAMS at 11.30. You will have been sent an invite for this.
  • Please remember that the “chat” section on TEAMS will only be for the teachers to communicate with you and your child.
  • Every week there will be a timetable uploaded to explain tasks to complete.
  • If you need to contact a teacher please email the class email address. One of us will try to get back to you as quickly as possible.
  • If your child needs any support with a specific area of learning, please email one of the year 5 team and you will be contacted directly via email for a teacher to provide more support or schedule a 1:1 TEAMS meeting to help.

Maths

  • Every day you will watch a video on the White Rose Maths website. This is matched to the year group and topic we are covering.
  • This will have an interactive element which children can complete and pause the video if needed to complete the questions in their own time.
  • Twice a week, there will be an “assignment” uploaded on one note which each pupil is required to complete and submit back to us via Teams.
  • If your child is finding something particularly difficult and you would like some more support, please email your child’s class teacher and they will contact you to provide this.
  • If you would like to do any additional Maths practice, please remember that you can access websites such as "nrich"  “BBC Bitesize”  “Daily 10”.

English

  • Every day there will be an English based activity which the children can complete independently or with your support.
  • Twice a week, there will be an “assignment” uploaded which each pupil is required to complete and submit back to us via Teams.
  • If your child is finding something particularly difficult and you would like some more support, please email your child’s class teacher and they will contact you to provide this.

Topic

  • This session may be slightly different each day. It may consist of a history, geography, science, art, DT, P.E or music lesson.
  • These do not have to be submitted back to us, but if you would like to keep your work and create a “project book” to bring in after lockdown for us to share as a class.
  • If there is anything you would like us to see in the meantime, please attach it to an email to any of the year 5 team, as we would love to see their work!

Topic

History

This term we will be finding out about Crime and Punishment during different periods in history.

This week we are going to be looking at Crime and punishment in Roman Times.

Watch the BBC bitesize clip and read all about Crime and punishment in Roman times.

Now draw a storyboard of the tragic events in the video. If you can't print it out do your own on paper. See if you can add some speech bubbles too.

Science

This week we are going to have a revision session on work we did last term about Space.

Go to the BBC link and watch and refresh your memories about-

The Earth

What is the solar system?

What are the rocky planets?

What are the gas planets?

What is the sun?

Try the quizzes for each section and see what you can remember!

If you want a challenge have a go at this Space quiz

Have a go at making an information poster about Space.  It could be about one planet or the whole solar system. Add some facts to your poster. Have a look at these for some ideas...
You could take a picture of your poster and send it in so we can put it on the gallery. Happy creating!

Happy New Year!

As our first few days of home learning comes to an end, to finish off the week have a look at this New Year Powerpoint and find out all about New Year and the celebrations held.

Apologies for the lateness of the meeting today on teams and the connection problems. There is a lot of traffic going through teams at the moment and this may be the reason and also that I am using a different laptop due to the camera fault on mine.

I have added the Chinese New Year powerpoint below as well as lots of activities for this afternoon. Take care - Mrs C

Happy New Year!

Have a go at creating a New Year hand. Draw around your hand and have a look at the one below to get some ideas about what to write on each finger. Decorate your hand and put it up in your bedroom!
