Please send your child to school DRESSED IN THEIR PE kit on the above days. i.e. plain white t-shirt, black shorts/black joggers, plimsolls/ trainers.
Please note that jewellery is not permitted in PE lessons for safety reasons. If your child cannot take their earrings out, please make sure they have been removed before school or provide plasters or tape to cover them. Children with long hair should wear their hair up during PE lessons so please ensure they have a bobble.
Food and drink in Year 2
Fruit will be provided for the children daily, if they wish to have it. This will be given at afternoon play. If you wish to pack a snack for your child to have at morning break, then this should be a ‘healthy snack’ which does not contain nuts.
Children need to have a water bottle in school every day. This should contain water only.
The children will need to tell their teacher during register if they want packed lunches, school dinners or jacket potato, so please make sure your child knows each morning what they are having.
Uniform
Please ensure all of your child’s uniform and PE kit (especially cardigans, jumpers and sports jackets) are clearly labelled with their name and class.
Phonics
All children will continue to take part in daily phonics sessions until they have completed the Little Wandle scheme. If your child did not pass the Year 1 phonic screening test, they will receive booster groups and retake the test later this year.
Please try to read with your child at least 3 times per week at home. Please make a note in your child’s organiser, when they have read at home with you. The total reads across the class will be collected on a running total across the year. When we reach 1000 reads, we will be taking the children on an exciting trip to the local library as a reward!
The children will continue to access decodable books until they have completed the Little Wandle reading scheme. Each week, they will bring home a decodable reading book and a sharing book of their choice. Please ensure these come back each week.
Please make sure that reading books and organisers are available in school every day. Your child will either, take part in small group reads each week or whole class reading sessions depending on their phonic ability. The whole class reads will not be recorded in their reading diaries. However, organisers are also used in other lessons such as computing so it is important that they are always available.
Doodle Maths
This year we are introducing the children to Doodle maths. This is a wonderful website/app that we will expect the children to use several times a week to practice their maths skills and reach the ‘Green zone’. This will form their weekly homework. There will be more information to follow. You will find a password and login details in the front of their organiser when we send that home, however, please do not login until we send you more details as there is a baseline assessment that we need to complete at school first before you can access it at home.
As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to ask any member of the Year 2 team. We will keep you updated via Class Dojo on any information that you need. We are really looking forward to working with you and your children this year 😊
Kind regards
Year 2 team
