In Year 5 as part of our Black History Month learning we have been finding out about the wonderful poet Benjamin Zephaniah. We listened to lots of his brilliant poems and also heard some of his music. One song we enjoyed was YOU DREAM and this led us to think about all our hopes and dreams for the future. We talked about how, regardless of our gender, race, religion, culture or background, we should all be allowed to follow our hopes and dreams and become whatever we want to be!
We researched his life and how he became a poet. We also found out that Savannah's Grandma Michelle is a poet too and has met, performed with and become friends with Benjamin.
We are very lucky to have her visiting us at school after half term to share some of her brilliant poems. Below is a photo of Michelle and her son with Benjamin and some pictures of the books where her poems can be found, as well as one of her poems, which is similar to Benjamin's Talking Turkeys poem!
